DISCOVER HIDDEN TREASURE
A scavenger hunt through Northport will kick off festivities for the annual Northport Omena Chamber of Commerce Winter Carnival.
The scavenger hunt begins on February 14 and will end on February 28, the day of the carnival. Collect all six treasures for a chance to win.
Get rules from participating retailers in Northport, Pennington Collection, The Tribune Ice Cream and Eatery, Tuckers of Northport, The Garage Bar and Grill, Motovino, Dolls and More, and Deeps Corner Store.
In addition to the scavenger hunt the carnival features two other new activities including a snowshoe poker run and a family air mattress sled race. Sign ups for the poker run and the family air mattress race take place at the warming house between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
In addition to the three new activities the carnival, which runs form 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., continues the time-honored carnival favorites including the Northport Public School cardboard sled race, broom ball, the Northport Promise Chili Cook-off and Northern Michigan's only milk jug curling tournament.
Hot dogs and hot chocolate, provided by the Northport-Omena Chamber of Commerce, will be available as long as supplies last.
Winter Carnival takes place at Braman Hill, west Third Street in Northport. To get there take M-22 to Northport then follow M-201/Shabwasung Street to where it "Ts" at Nagonaba Street. Turn left and head west on Nagonaba to High Street. Turn right on High Street and follow that to Third Street. Turn Left on Third and follow that west of town to the park.
